Wild Place!

Image
Year 2 had the most fantastic time at Wild Place yesterday! We have been excited for weeks and couldn't believe the day had finally arrived.  W hen we arrived we went on a walk through the woods looking for animals. We came across an obstacle course which was great fun! The first animals we saw were the Gelada monkeys. They had amazing fur and liked to sit on rocks.   Next we saw the Cheetahs. We stayed absolutely silent and the cheetah's started prowling towards us. All 3 of them came right up to us, it was an incredible experience! We couldn't believe our eyes or luck!! We explored an African village and saw many African animals.  We learnt all about African animals and the reasons why some of them unfortunately are endangered. This linked with our topic this term.   After we had eaten our delicious lunches we went on a barefoot walk. We walked across many different materials without any shoes on, the parents and teac

RNLI Visit

Image
What a fantastic morning we had in Year 2 today (18.1.19). Jon from the  Royal National Lifeboat Institution came to visit us and he taught us all about water safety. We had an assembly in the morning with Reception and Year 1. During this time Jon showed us some amazing rescue videos and we were very impressed. Most of the people working on the lifeboats are volunteers, amazing! Ashley dressed up as one of the crew members to show everyone what they would wear on a rescue mission.    A little bit later on Jon came to our classroom and talked to us about keeping ourselves safe at the seaside. He was very impressed with Year 2's knowledge of water safety and it was lovely to hear them making links to their trip to Weston Super-Mare. Anisa had a chance to dress up this time! Anisa was showing us what an RNLI lifeguard would be wearing at the beach.   We carried our own rescue mission! Always remember a red flag means

Science Week

Image
Years 2 made paper aeroplanes, paper helicopters and paper gliders during science week. Our aim was to find out which one traveled the furthest. We started by making predictions. Most of us thought the aeroplane would go the furthest because it had a pointy nose. We worked in groups to make the aircraft of our choice. We went to the studio with Year one to carry out our experiment, this part was a lot of fun and we did some fantastic learning. We found that the aeroplane went the furthest because it was the most aerodynamic, it was closely followed by the glider and the helicopter span straight to the ground.

Music Lessons in Year 2.

Image
This term Year 2 will be having music lessons with Mr Rees on Thursday afternoons. We will be learning songs linked to our topic, 'The Great Fire of London', alongside some silly songs just for fun!  Mr Rees will be teaching us a range of techniques to improve our singing voices and we will be learning how to breathe whilst singing... a very important skill! Here are a few photos of us during our first lesson. You can see lots of smiles from all of us, we had a great time and can't wait to learn more. Mr Rees plays the guitar whilst the children sing and  we are hoping to learn some percussion instruments to play along with.  At the end of our block of lessons we hope to put on a performance for parents, so watch this space for more information!

Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition

Image
Year 2 were so lucky to have been given the opportunity to visit the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition at the MShed in Bristol.  National Friendly, a Bristol-based mutual society, and Ablaze, a charity which targets inequality  amongst  the young in the South West worked alongside us to organise and fund this thought provoking and inspiring trip. During our time at the MShed we managed to explore the whole museum, our favourite parts were the bus and the fruit and veg shop. You can see us enjoying ourselves in the photos below.  The photography exhibition was amazing and we couldn't believe that children had taken some of the photos of the wildlife, this inspired many of the children to have a go at taking photos themselves.    Thank you to everyone who helped to make this exciting day happen, Year two had the best time!

The Great Fire of London.

The Great Fire of London 2nd September 1666 In Terms 3 and 4 our history topic is ' The Great Fire of London ' . On Monday we had our WOW day. During the day we learnt so much about the great fire through a range of activities.   We turned cardboard boxes into black and white Tudor houses. We made delicious bread rolls in our school kitchen. We worked together with Year 1, it was a lot of fun and a little bit messy! Did you know that the Great Fire of London started in a bakery?  We made a timeline of what happened over the 4 days that the fire was burning.  Here are our finished houses.   In the afternoon we went outside and burnt the houses. It was quite windy and this caused the fire to spread quickly, just like in the real fire.
